ALAPPUZHA (Allepy) (87 km from Kollam & 64 km from Cochin)
An intricate network of canals & lakes makes this backwater district unique. Famous for its exhilarating boat races, Alappuzha comes alive in the month of August & September. While you are here, do shop for coir mats and rugs to take home.
Visit Kuttanad perhaps the only region in the world where farming is done 1.5 to 2 m below sea level.

 


Alappuzha

KUMARAKOM (16 km from Kottayam Railway Station & 56 km from Alappuzha by road)
An unbelievably beautiful paradise situated on the Vembanad Lake is a fast developing backwater tourism destination. The resort nearby offer comfortable accommodation and exclusive leisure option like an Ayurvedic Massage, yoga, meditation, boating, fishing, angling and swimming. Nearby is Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary favorite haven for migratory birds.

KOLLAM (72 km from Trivandrum)
It was once the centre of cashew and spice trade. Situated on Aslitamudi Lake and it is the gateway to the magnificient back waters of kerala.

 

MUNNAR

1600 m above sea level, the Munnar hills are largely blanketed by sea plantations. Munnar's exotic flora includes Neelakurinji - a flower which blooms in every 12 years, will bloom next in 2006 AD.

Munnar

THE PERIYAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Situated in Thekkady. To reach Perriyar Sanctuary one has to arrive at Kumily.
Distance from Kumily: Cochin-190 km, Trivandrum-265 km, Munnar-110 km and Kottayam-114 km. 

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary spread across 777 sq. km and declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978. The splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam adds to the charm of the park. This is the only sanctuary in India where you can view wildlife at close quarters from the safety of a boat on the lake. The greatest attraction are the herds of wild elephants that come down to play in the lake.
